Easter Island is said to have undergone a Malthusian catastrophe, where population growth outstripped the island’s finite resources. Can Easter Island be seen as a microcosm of our planet today or a cautionary tale as the current trajectory of demand for water driven by population growth is predicted to outstrip current supplies in many regions of the world by 2050?
